About Me:
Although I am a proud native of the Seattle area, there was a time, nearly a hundred years ago, that I considered myself a successful, dedicated career woman living in New York City working for a little magazine you may have heard of called Martha Stewart Living. It was a very exciting, fast-paced lifestyle that I enjoyed immensely and learned so much from. I have always been a passionate home cook, but it was during my time at the magazine where I found my love of creating meals and recipes that I wanted to share with everyone. It wasn’t until after I got married and started a family and my job description changed so dramatically, that it afforded me the time and flexibility to cultivate this love. For the past six years I’ve been a full time mom, home chef, and food blogess – and it’s right where I need to be.
About My Blog:
Soups and stews have become a staple in our weekly menu; be it a Hearty Lentil Soup in the winter, a light and spicy Chicken Orzo in the spring, or a creamy Pumpkin Puree in the fall; our family thrives on these soul-warming, one-pot meals.
All of my soups start with a homemade stock, but for those of you who don’t have the want or means to create a four-hour mélange, I provide shortcuts at the end of every recipe to save you time, energy, and money — without compromising the delicious flavor. Whenever possible, I try to include recipes for complimentary sides (salads, breads, etc.) and beverage pairings.
I’ve created all of my soup recipes by hand, and have put a lot of time and effort (sometimes years) into testing and fine tuning each one to ensure the best possible results. With that being said, personal taste is a huge part of cooking, so if there’s a particular ingredient you don’t like, leave it out! But don’t forget to share your changes with the rest of us so that we can all benefit from your tweaking. Also, if you’re new to soup making, check out my tips under Soup Basics. My goal is to post a soup a week, and in the meantime, I’ll be blogging about other things that strike my fancy: cookbooks, entertaining, home decor, travel, restaurants, culinary treats, helpful kitchen tools, and the dramas of raising a future foodie… or whatever else I’m obsessing about at the moment.
Please feel free to leave comments, suggestions, and questions, and I’ll try my best to respond to each one in a timely manner.
Enjoy!
Emily
